VALA Tech Camp 2023 was held last week, and I was lucky enough to attend, and to speak on Day 2 in the Open Source stream.
The day started with an excellent workshop on digital search skills in the Data stream. I learnt some very nifty tricks, and played around with a brilliant set of tools I've never used before called Voyant Tools.
I also got to hear the always clear and clever Hugh Rundle give a brilliant talk on contributing to Open Source.
Here's the slides from the talk I gave called Open Source, Open Practice.
Here's the description:
Open source software is woven into the fabric of a lot of technology we now take for granted.
But what is it? And how does it relate to libraries?
People are also adopting open practices and processes along with open technologies.
Let’s explore what this means for libraries, the people who use them, work in them, and fund them.
We wrapped up the session with the briefest of brief table discussions, and summed up those conversations in a word.
Here's the words:
- Dissemination
- Collaboration
- Community
- Incentives
- Upskilling
There may be a recording. I'll share that if and when I can.
